Alganon is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. It is very similar to World of Warcraft in game design and gameplay, however this isn't necessarily a bad thing. It also brings some new features to the genre, which are advantageous for casual players.

First of all, you'll need to create a character in order to enter the game world. You need to choose a side between Asharr and Kujix. Both of them are humanoids and there isn't such a big difference between the sides, even though they are completely opposed. After that you need to choose a family and a class. Both will offer different perks and small gameplay differences. The customization process has quite a few features. Some different face presets, hair and skin colors and height are the only things you can modify. To put it simply you cannot stand out in this game, many other characters will look the same as you.

The gameplay mechanics are exactly like in other WoW clones. Like I've said before, this isn't a bad thing because a lot of people got used to the style that WoW has imposed. If you've played similar games, you will have no problem getting used to this one. There is one thing that bothered me. The game doesn't have an interactive tutorial. Once you enter the game world it will ask you if you need a tutorial. Upon clicking yes, it will send you to a section where every feature of the game is explained. This is quite bad for players who are new to the genre, since almost no one sits and reads through 10 pages of how to play a game. Alganon does bring some new features though, which can make the game more interesting. It has a study system which allows the player to progress even when they are offline. At first I thought you would get extra experience or something like that. In fact it is designed to favor players who play more casually, and don't dedicate a lot of time to games. These Studies will offer bonuses in different categories and will allow you to level faster while playing. Simply put, if you don't play for 1 week, your character does a lot of studies that when you finally play the game, you can recuperate that whole week. At least that's the theory behind it. This is indeed a good feature, however I feel that it is unfavorable to players who dedicate a lot of time to the game. The leveling up will take quite some time, and a lot of grinding is required.

The story is a classic fight between good and evil. The two opposing factions are in conflict and you have to do your best to battle the other faction. Every quest seems to be very shallow, and after the first few ones I stopped reading them because they were boring.

Overall I can say that I liked Alganon. It is fairly easy to play and since it is free it is worth a shot. Its Study system generally makes the game more enjoyable if you play rarely so this can be a plus if you don't have a lot of time to play.
